Anniversay Cake

I hope your enjoying your weekend, it’s so nice to finally have some nice weather. I thought I would share with you the cake I made for our anniversary. We had to postpone our plans due to me being poorly, but I’m pleased to say I’m feeling much better each day.

Anniversary cake

The cake is a classic sponge cake, with a strawberry jam and strawberry butter icing filling. I then put a small coating of the strawberry butter icing around the outside, and then white chocolate ganache piped roses.

The ‘Just Married’ flag is from the wedding last year, I bought them to put them in the floral centrepieces. The bunting I made myself! cake bunting

And because it was a special occasion the edible glitter came out!

The Mr & Mrs sign I had on the cake table at our wedding.

My lovely husband bought me some peonies, my favourite flower and the flowers I had in my bouquet. He’s such a romantic :)

Please excuse the huge amount of photos, I got a little carried away :)

Vintage embroidery

So I’m feeling a little sorry for myself, I woke up without my voice, it’s finally given in and stopped working completely, my  throat is so sore and my glands are really swollen and my ears are all blocked up too… boo hoo :( The thing is it’s our first wedding anniversary tomorrow and we had so much planned!

But anyway enough of the self pity.. I’ve really caught the embroidery bug! I’ve been browsing patterns on Pinterest and I have to say I’ve become a little obsessed with the vintage patterns, and now I’ve worked out how to download and print off there will be no stopping me! I have quite a few ideas for little projects for around the home.

I’m just not sure what to do with it, I have ideas of sewing some different patterns and incorporating them all in a quilt of some sort. I’m just brainstorming at the moment :)

But I am in love with these little birds, you can see the pattern here. kitten laundry

This is the next pattern I want to stitch next, I want to make a peg bag and this is what will be on the front.  I will of course share my progress.

Spring stitching progress

It feels a like I have spent most of this year feeling unwell, I seem to recover and then a day or so later I feel rubbish again, I finally took myself off to the doctor this week and it turns out I need a blood test to see what’s going on, one theory… Glandular Fever :( Of course being the NHS I have to wait nearly two weeks for the test!

I haven’t really felt up to getting on the sewing machine so instead I have used the time to curl up and catch up on my stitching club hexagons, and I have finally caught up!

There are just 3 more patterns to arrive and I’m looking forward to seeing what they are! In  the meantime I’m going to sew these hexagons together. It’s been so long since I last made a quilt and I had forgotten how enjoyable and satisfying it is, even if it is a little time consuming.

I’ll be back again soon for another update.
