A Quilty Update

I thought I would do a little Quilty catch up post, I have been fairly busy on the machine and real life so haven’t had much time to blog about it. Now half term is over it is the perfect time to do so, and rather than bombard with you a load of separate posts I thought it be better to combine them into one! If you follow me on Instagram you may recognise some of these pictures.

First up is a quilt that I started a year ago, I started off well and then for no reason at all I got distracted by other things and it sat languishing in a box wondering what it had done wrong.

Swedish Bloom

The pattern is from the book Patchwork Please by Ayumi Takahashi and is entirely made using Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). When I started this I was quite a novice at FPP and at first it did challenge my skill set, but once I found a system that works for me it suddenly became a whole lot easier. I picked this up again towards the end of last year and had hoped to have it completed before the new year, but unfortunately I ran out of white fabric for the sashing so it had to wait a bit longer to be finished. I love the spring colours of this one, and now we are starting to get some nicer weather it has really put me in the mood for spring. Just the dreaded task of quilting now and deciding how that will be!

The next quilt I want to share is my finished I Heart You Quilt. I really enjoyed making this and its simplicity, so much so I am so tempted to make another!

I heart you quilt

In the end with the quilting I decided to stick with straight lines spaced 2 inches apart with Aurifil 50wt #2024 and some hand quilting details on select few with Aurifloss #2425. I’m so pleased with how I turned out, although I could always be happier with my quilting!

I still can’t get over how perfect that backing fabric is!

Next up, I am joining in with another quilt along. This time the pattern is Meadowland by Then Came JuneΒ . I’ve been admiring this pattern for some time now and can’t wait to get started!

Blossoms Fabric

This is my fabric pull for it! The fabric is called Blossoms and is by The Tattooed Quilter for Riley Blake, I’m so in love with the colours and the softness of the fabric.
