Today I’m sharing the beautiful collection Rose & Violet’s Garden from Riley Blake Designs by mum and daughter design team “Miss Rose Sister Violet”.

This is such a beautiful collection, perfect for those who love vintage, pastel and dreamy styles; it’s no secret this is me!

All the pretty motifs were begging to be fussy cut to show their true beauty and the shape that I wanted to use the most and thought would suit the fabric best was Clamshells.

It’s been long time since I last made a Granny Bag (you can see the last one here). I love the slouchy, puffy style of this type of bag and the colours in the fabrics really lends itself to a good choice for something turn the clamshell panel into.

Considering I am such a huge fan of Clams it has been quite a while since I last did any. I always forget how enjoyable I find the process of making them and the applique. I used 2.5″ clamshells basted onto paper with Sewline glue and appliqued with Aurifil 80wt thread. The thread is so fine and works well at hiding stitches.

I’m pretty sure Clamshells look their best hand quilted. Certainly in my case I don’t trust my quilting or piecing skills to get it perfectly straight!😆 That aside I wanted to stick to the vintage charm of the bag. All hand quilting was done with Aurifil 12wt thread in Muslin (#2311).

I didn’t want the back of the bag to feel left out, it may not be on show as much but it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t miss out on anything special.

Some more fussy cutting took place to add a couple of motifs to the back. These were simply cut out, fused to the fabric with bondaweb and then a little handstitching with the same 12wt thread.

For the interior I used a Riley Blake basic Le Creme Swiss Dot Baby Pink. The colours of which match perfectly. Don’t you love it when that happens!

I added a large slip pocket with one of the Rose & Violet Garden prints. This floral (in all 3 colours) is my favourite print, it’s so pretty. I had to get a bit of lace in there too! With a collection like this it would have been rude not to!

This bag perhaps would be a good choice to wear with an outfit to a summer wedding, but seeing as none of those are taking place at the moment, I think it makes a sweet sewing storage space.

I couldn’t stop at one project and had time to squeeze one more in. Sticking with the Granny Bag theme I made a bag shaped photo frame. As soon as I saw a picture of one in one of my Japanese Magazines I had to recreate it!

There is something so magical about old black and white photos don’t you think? I am planning on writing up the pattern/tutorial for this and had hoped to have it ready for you now, but with home schooling and Christmas racing I wasn’t able. So it will be available in the new year!
