Flourish Sewing Set

I recently had the pleasure of testing Lou Orth’s new pattern the Flourish Sewing Set. This handy little set includes a needlebook, a thread catcher and a pincushion.

The pattern comes with the option to make it with a mini patchwork block or without. The mini block is a great opportunity for some tiny fussy cutting and highlighting those precious fabrics.

I chose to do two of the three of the items with the mini block and although a modern pattern I couldn’t resist using Liberty and linen, it’s a classic match and goes together just as well as peas and carrots! :)

This was a fun and very satisfying pattern to make, and bonus points for being fat quarter friendly, how many of us have piles of FQ’s stashed away waiting to be used!? I can imagine this being great for gifts or little swap extras. The instructions are very well written and I was so pleased with the finished products.

The needlebook features a felt needle page to store your pins and needles, and the opposite side has 2 handy little pockets, perfect for holding a spool of thread or other little things such as binding clips. It closes together with a ribbon, so there is no worrying about trying to fiddle with button holes or KAM snaps!

The pincushion is a nice big size and will fit a whole lot of pins, good job really as I could do with an upgrade. The thread catcher was of course the quickest make of the three and will come in super handy in trying to keep my sewing table (and carpets!) free of those pesky stray threads!

Get your copy of the pattern here. While you’re there check out Lou’s brand new website, there are some really lovely patterns!

  1. Very pretty, I do love Liberty and have a thing about pincushions too. In fact I have so many that they have to take turns being used. The set would make a lovely present. x
