Being a huge fan of Jane Austen and the adaptions of Pride and Prejudice (which Darcy is your favourite?? Colin Firth of course!) I was super excited when I first saw this collection and couldn’t wait to make something with them.
I knew I wanted to make something that kept within the theme of the era but was also keen to add my own twist to it. You may have noticed I have a little obsession with Clamshells, with it creeping more and more into my work. I’m hoping that people won’t get bored of seeing them, I’m certainly not bored of making them yet!
One of my most favourite ever makes was a Clamshell Dilly Bag which I made using the pattern from Sharon Burgess’s book “Quilting on the Go… English Paper Piecing”, that was a good couple of years ago now so I thought it would be the perfect time to make another! Although I was very tempted to make a quilt.
This was soooo much fun! With lots and lots of fussy cutting opportunities! The collection features pretty flowers, dancing couples, the houses from Pride and Prejudice and my absolute favourite print the swans.
Of course I had to add some hand quilted details and decided to alternate colours this time using a Aurifil 12wt #2425 (pink) and Aurifloss #2830 (mint). Both colours work really well with the different colour prints and I love the effect it gave.
I appliqued and used a natural linen from Riley Blake, did you know they did gorgeous linens? It was a dream to work with and nice and easy to press, I will be using more of their linen in future!
Pemberley is available in shops now in the USA and will be available in Europe and the UK soon.
I hope you enjoyed my make, be sure to check out the Riley Blake Designs blog for more inspiration.
