By now I am pretty sure you have heard of the devastating Bush fires that are happening in Australia at the moment, it so heart breaking to see and makes one feel so helpless. How on earth do you stop Mother Nature? These fires are wiping out huge amounts of wildlife, in fact it has been estimated that 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia to date, meaning some of these animals such as Koalas are nearing the Endangered list. Writing just those few short sentences has filled me with tears.
So what can we do to help?
The sewing community is a wonderful place, full of supportive, kind and caring people. So of course there are some good souls who are offering proceeds of sales to charities such as The Red Cross and Wires. On this occasion it’s not quilts that is going to help, it’s money!
I have gathered together some patterns and shops that are offering proceeds. Please check them out, some of the patterns are the cost of a cup of coffee and in return you get a fun new pattern!
(Two days ago when I first started this list, I had found 3 patterns, the list keeps growing by the day! If you know of any others please let me know and I’ll add them to the list!)
Quiet Play has designed this pattern specially for this cause and 100% of the profits from this pattern will go to Red Cross Australia. I couldn’t resist this one and have downloaded it already and can’t wait to start!
The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery have also specially designed this super cute pattern that I just could not resist! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Wires and now after raising $3,000 already in just a couple of days are donating proceeds to Wildlife Victoria.
Sew Quirky has designed this super cute Koala Pop pattern and she will be donating 100% of the profits to Wires Wildlife Rescue
Corinne Sovey designed this cute koala block in 2015 and since the fires started has decided to donate all proceeds indefinitely to Australian Wildlife Charities.
Joe June and Mae has also designed a cute Koala block, using foundation paper piecing. 100% of the proceeds of this sale in January will go to The Rescue Collective.
Elizabeth Hartman is donating proceeds of her cute Koala pattern to Wires Wildlife Rescue. (Since starting this post Elizabeth has sold out of these patterns raising a whopping $13,500 USD to the cause. The pattern will be available again on 1st February.)
Quilt Art Designs has designed this Kangaroo foundation paper pieced pattern, and all proceeds are going Wires Wildlife Rescue.
Finally not so much a pattern but The Strawberry Thief are holding a raffle with a bundle of some super cute Hello Kitty Japanese Liberty as its prize. This is from their own personal stash and at $5 AUD a ticket all proceeds will be going to Wildlife Victoria a winner will be picked on the 24th January. As well as the raffle all made from the sale of their Liberty Scrappy Boho packs until the 24th Jan will be donated to Red Cross Australia.
All these lovely designs have got me thinking what a wonderful sampler quilt this would make!
