Modern Farmhouse Fabric – Modern Rice Pouch

Today I’m sharing what I made with this pretty fabric “Modern Farmhouse” by Simple Simon & Company for Riley Blake Designs.

The collection comes in three colour-ways and I immediately fell in love with the blush version, it even includes little pops of metallic!

I thought it would be fun to make a Modern Rice Pouch (or Komebukuro to give its other name) with the fabrics, it is a pattern that I recently purchased from KZStevens, and decided it would be the ideal thing to make, to feature more than one print.

Something that is usually completely out of my comfort zone is improv patchwork, but  it’s also quite fun to throw the rule book out the window and just go with it! Another aspect of making this pouch that I loved was adding all the little hand-stitched details! (I used Aurifil 12wt  thread)

I am definitely making more of these!!

I thought it would be fun to make a feature of the print side of the selvedge. So gathered 3 of the prints and plaited them! I’m quite pleased with the effect.

These are so roomy inside, and filled with goodies would make a wonderful gift for someone.

  1. It is so pretty Sarah! I made a couple and thoroughly enjoyed how quick they come together. And the one I kept has been sooo useful. I love the sweet stitches you added, and the cute tassel trim.
