Today I am sharing the project I’ve made with Riley Blake Design’s From the Heart collection designed by Sandy Gervais.

It’s hard not to feel the love in the air when playing with these fabrics. I’m a sucker for a heart and these made me wish it was Valentines already – at least we would be out of the dreaded 2020, am I right!?

I had a couple ideas for this, I didn’t really want to do something so obvious as a heart theme, but in the end I couldn’t resist. I had hoped to make the I Heart You Quilt by Pen & Paper Patterns, unfortunately travel restrictions and then life got in the way of that idea. However not being short of heart themed ideas I decided to make a pillow instead.

I didn’t want to detract from the central hearts, so decided to machine quilt only the border. I thought it be fun to use curvy setting on my machine. It reminds me of the tops of hearts!

Of course I couldn’t not add some hand quilting too!

With a bit of luck I had both 30wt Aurifil thread and Aurifloss in the same colour #2250.

These hearts however I did with an embroidery stitch on my machine. It is a feature of the machine I have not really utilised before. I think I will have to play around with the different stitches and settings a bit more!

If you look closely the white background fabric is not in fact a solid but a Riley Blake Basic from the Shades collections. This particular colour being ‘Snow’. I love that it gives the fabric a bit of texture without taking away any of the focus on the feature fabrics, it is also white enough to help the cream fabric hearts pop out and not blend into one.

I have to share the back of the pillow too, I know not the most exciting but you do need to see this Bee Basic Hearts fabric – could it be anymore perfect!?
