Today I am sharing the fun I’ve been having with Lori Holt’s newest collection for Riley Blake Designs – Stitch. As with all of Lori’s collections this has a delicious 1930’s/ feedsack vibe to it that I just adore! This is a huge collection with almost 50 different prints and colourways. I managed to restrain myself to just 8!

Inspired by Lori’s love of cross stitch and the fabrics namesake of course, I thought it would be apt to make some stitchy accessories, including a needlebook and a pouch. Both of which you can never have too many!

It’s been a while since I last played with a granny chic style fabric and I really enjoyed it. It has got me wanting to dig further back into my stash and sew with more.

First up, a hexie needlebook. Well I couldn’t not do hexies! This fabric lends itself perfectly to them! These are slightly smaller than my go-to size and are just 3/4″

I thought I’d mix up the back slightly and use up some of the strips of fabric I had already cut for the hexagons. I also couldn’t resist adding some sweet Zakka tape that I had in my stash.

I added a little pocket for some notions and a pair of scissors, and because scissors always seem to have a habit of falling out I added a little tab with snap to keep them where they are. I thought it be a neat idea to use a red snap, now I’m not so sure, and kinda wish I had gone with a more subtle colour.

I had some left over hexies and after debating about whether to add a zip pocket or another slip pocket, my desire for embellishing took over, and so I appliqued some on the back page instead. They would still make a handy needle landing.

I thought it would be a nice to touch to keep the closure more traditional and used a thin strip of faux suede.

I couldn’t just leave it at one make, and so a scrappy zipper pouch joined the party.

I couldn’t resist the opportunity to use that sweet selvedge to add some extra details.
