Festive Makes

I had a few projects on the go over the Christmas period, two I will share with you in another time. I was really pleased they all were finished in time, although I did have more projects in mind that didn’t even get started!

First of all was a lovely little festive sew along by Pretty Fabrics and Trims

Festive Sew along

This project incorporated so much, patchwork, embroidery, applique, felt and hand quilting and was very enjoyable! I loved the finished project and can see this being brought out to decorate our home every year! If you fancy this project yourself the sew along is up on their blog.

Another sew along I completed was from my favourite cross stitch ladies The Frosted Pumpkins!

Merry and Bright Sew Along

I’ve found myself doing a lot of cross stitch recently. It’s a nice thing to sit and do of evening when I just want to sit and relax, I don’t have much time to get on the sewing machine these days so this is a good alternative! I’ve been working on another project of theirs, a year long sew along called Pumpkin Passport, and am so close to completion. They have a new sew along starting next week – Happily Ever After and I have signed up to that so am rushing to get the Passport finished. I’ll of course share with you when I have finished! Sadly I never got to finish Story time Sampler from this post so at some point I need to crack on with that too! So many projects but so little time!

I know Christmas has been and gone and the decorations have been put away so I hope you don’t mind that I’m a bit out of date with this post. I know it’s a cliché saying this but I really don’t know where the time goes!

A Belated Merry Christmas

Hello all! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I’ve just popped on here to share my completed Christmas Celebration Sampler. I finished it late on Christmas Eve, so just in time for the big day!

The border was a real labour of love I have to say, but I’m happy with the way it turned out.

Sorry for the short and sweet post, it’s quite busy here, I’ll be back before the end of the year which excitingly is only a couple of days away! x

Charity Coffee and Craft Day

I can’t believe it has been over a week since my last post! Where has the time gone!? December already! Anyway… In my blogging absence I have been busy preparing – baking and sewing for a charity coffee morning for a charity very close to my heart Myeloma UK. It is the only craft event I will be doing this season and so I thought I’d share some pictures of my stall.

Sorry the quality is not the best, they were taken on my phone. We also had a huge cake table filled with lots of yummy baked goods and a raffle and we raised almost £14oo. So all in all a very good day!

Sweet Unicorn Lavender Pillow

I recently had the delight of coming across The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery which sell the cutest cross stitch patterns EVER! After recently enjoying some cross stitch from The Liberty Cross Stitch book I knew I had to give these patterns a try, the hardest part was picking which one!

I initially signed up for a Christmas Stitch along which you can see here but as that doesn’t start until the 14th of November I wanted something to do in the meantime. I picked the pattern Legendary Friends.

Now because I didn’t have the blue aida/ linen that was suggested for this pattern I had to improvise with the colours a bit, but it actually worked out really well and I’m very happy with the results.

Legendary friends

As I was stitching this lovely up I knew what I would make it into when it was finished, it seemed the perfect feature to a lavender sleep pillow. Being a bit of a troubled sleeper I always sleep with a little lavender pillow next to my pillow and I am in need of a new one. I had a little bit of the cloud fabric leftover from my Spring Stitching Quilt, (I knew it’d be handy to be a scrap hoarder!) I added a little bit of soft wadding and some hand quilting et Voila…

Unicorn Sleep Pillow

I love these pastel colours! I know we are now in autumn and my colours should reflect that but for me pinks and pastels win every time!

I couldn’t let the back go unnoticed even if it is going to spend most of its life under my pillow, linen and lace another of my favourite combos!

I think I might try and sneak in another pattern before the start of the Christmas sew along :)

Here is a sneak peek of the Christmas Stitch..

I must have a pair of those scissors too!!

Sewing Machine Table Mat

Do you remember my last post I was having some fun with my leftover scrap hexies, well this is it finished! And it turns out it makes a perfect little mat for my sewing machine.

Of course I had to include some polka dots, and I had some spotty binding left over from the Spring quilt. You can see the quilting better on the back, they look like sunrays! :)

Spring Stitching Completed

So I know it’s autumn and a liiiitttle bit late but believe it or not I did actually finish this project months ago. The first batch of photos I took I was not happy with and it’s taken until now to redo and edit them, silly really as I was so proud to have finished my second ever quilt I should have shared sooner! I’m not very good at photographing quilts and I’m not sure I have done it justice.

Too many photos? They are not the best I know but it gives you a idea of the finished project, I’m just sorry it took so long, being poorly has meant I’ve got a bit behind with things like that. I have another quilt to photograph to show you!

I loved this project so much! And it made me fall back in love with hexies and quilting. As I started a bit late with this stitch along I didn’t have the time to plan my fabrics but it actually all worked out ok. I used some fabrics from my stash but I did find myself making a few purchases to get it just right. The bee fabric wasn’t planned I was at my local fabric shop looking for a fabric to finish it and there it was, it was like it was meant to bee… (sorry!) Of course it had to be polka dot binding, and as it was a spring project it had to be yellow.

If you fancy giving it a go yourself, it is still available to purchase and download here.

Stitchy progress!

I’ve finally finished my hexie quilt top! I have to admit there was a point when I thought it would never be finished, especially when I had to un-pick an entire row! But now I can say it’s done! Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed stitching this but there does come a time when you are near the end of a long project that you desperately want to cross the finish line!

hexie quiltHere is a little sneaky peek, sorry for the bad photo this was taken impromptu on my phone. I will of course have proper pictures of the completed project. I’ve decided I’m going to have a go at hand quilting this one… it seems fitting seeming as the quilt is hand-stitched. The dotted lines you can see are just my markings of where I will quilt, not sure if that’s cheating or not? I’m a bit of a  perfectionist though so this should save me some time in the long run.

Backing and binding

My backing fabric and binding fabric arrived on Friday but rather frustratingly the wadding failed to show, so my plan of doing some hand quilting over the weekend was not to be, its also why I marked the quilt lines with pen. How cute is the cherry binding! You can find it here and the backing fabric which is 108″ wide! is from here

My pick of the week

Finally my top picks from the past week, you can see here some of the photo-a-day prompts that I have done, and another sneak peak of the finished quilt top! (I’m @saysies if you want to follow me)
