On Sunday my beautiful mama turned 70! It seemed only right they I made her a birthday rosette, I’m not sure if she was too thrilled to wear it but she humored me by doing so.
My original plan had been to make her a quilt. I had found the most beautiful pattern which was an Art Deco style by Slo Studio in Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine. However my lack of confidence told me I couldn’t do it. Not only that time was definitely an issue especially as the last few months have been full of some severe sleep deprivation! Hourly wake ups anyone?? Finally my mum is an expert quilter and I figured she probably doesn’t need another quilt!

Instead I thought I’d make something useful. She is at the hospital for chemo treatments every week and she loves to do some EPP (like mother like daughter) so I decided to make a fold-up sewing folio by Aneela Hoey. I have already made 3 of these cases now (although sorry I’ve not blogged about them yet!) and I really enjoy the process.
As a special little touch I added little a little hexie zip charm to each zip. A perfect place to hold all her sewing and epp tools. The case I made for myself I use all the time and it’s so handy!
Normally I jump at the chance to make a cake, but as this was a very special occasion I decided to pass on the responsibility to a professional, and boy am I glad I did! Look how stunning this cake is! It kind of makes me never want to make a cake again and just get Gina’s Cakery to do it! If you live in the Reading area I highly recommend her!
I will finish this post with a little bit of soppiness. My mum is the most amazing woman, she has been and is going through so much, and she still keeps smiling and going on for us all. She has been on continuous chemo treatments for the last 3 years and this is the third time the cancer has come back and yet she keeps fighting. I think it helps she has a certain little grand-daughter to fight for. We love you very much mum and appreciate everything you do for us despite what you’re going through, and that you’re still fighting this horrid battler! #cancersucks

This is sweet. Your story of your mom brought tears to my eyes. I was my dads caregiver for 4 years through open heart surgery and stage 4 cancer. He always smiled. He was never negative. He believed laughter was good medicine. I need to make this little pouch.
